The Road Not Taken

A Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Experience

Hello! You're looking at The Road Not Taken, a prose-based interactive narrative, where you can choose how the story goes! Each story tree includes dozens of branches, twisting and turning based on your decisions. Our stories represent a variety of genres. The current project being developed is the 'Enchanted Forest' story, a fantasy adventure set in the Land of Faerie. Can you keep your wits about you and find your way home, or will you be lost to the wood forever?

Stories will not be posted until at least 10 branches beginning-to-end are complete. You may still encounter a branch still under contruction. You may chose to follow that branch, but we recommend only selecting completed branches! These are branching plot novels, not solitaire gamebooks. While there may be some 'failure' endings, you are also likely to find multiple 'success' endings, and even some that might be neither. Feel free to backtrack as well and explore different endings to all of our stories

How to Play:

Each 'chapter' of the adventure will have its own page. Enjoy reading the story. At the end of the page, you will encounter a choice. Some chapters have two choices, and others have more. A choice that leads down a story branch that is complete with an end chapter . A choice that only ends in branches we are still working on . You can still read all the way down the branch as far as we have written, if you don't mind a cliff-hanger. The final choice in a branch if we have not written the page it links to . Click the choice you want to watch play out, and see the story change based on your decisions.

Remember that this is a long-term project. If every chapter ends in a choice between only two options, and every branch has only eight pages before a conclusive end, that means we have to write 511 chapters for them all to be complete. If a storyline is ten choices long, thats 2047 chapters! We go out of our way to limit meaningless choices, and avoid identical chapters in different branches. We have included some similar chapters when we liked them a lot, but even then we alter it somewhat to better flow with the surrounding choices. We hope you have patience with us as we develop our story trees.
